An Oakdale family whose 16-year-old son was shot by a Stanislaus deputy and later died plans to sue Stanislaus County, the sheriff's office, and the deputies involved.
A Calfornia district attorney has dropped efforts to seek a new death sentence against Scott Peterson, who was convicted in 2005 of the murder of his pregnant wife and unborn child, according to a court filing.
By no longer pursuing the death penalty, Peterson will now face a sentence of life in prison without the possibility of patrol, according to court documents.
