The St. Joseph County Health Department had to scramble to come up with enough doses to keep its COVID-19 vaccination clinic open this week, after one weekly allotment from the state never arrived Feb. 12 while another was delayed until at least Monday because of weather.
Donations from other providers will allow the departmentâs vaccination clinic at St. Hedwig Memorial Center to stay open today. But it was still unclear Thursday whether more doses would arrive in time to run the clinic again Monday.
County officials said the state never sent the local health department a shipment of 2,500 doses of the Moderna vaccine that was supposed to arrive last week, apparently because Indiana hadnât received its latest allocation from the federal government.

SOUTH BEND â Notre Dame and St. Joseph County health officials say they arenât happy with a downtown South Bend barâs lack of COVID-19 safety measures discovered late Wednesday night, and the county could move to shut it down if it happens again.
County Health Officer Dr. Robert Einterz said he caught wind of a â100 Days Before Graduationâ promotion that Finnieâs Next Door, a popular student bar at 233 S. Main St., was running from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m.
Wanting to signal the importance of safety at the bar, Einterz said he showed up himself, rather than sending a staff member, at about midnight. He says he found the bar was violating Gov. Eric Holcombâs current COVID-19 executive order.
More than 800 people at high risk for hospitalization have received antibody treatments to fight mild or moderate cases of COVID-19 since a regional infusion center opened in Mishawaka in December.
The Northern Indiana COVID Infusion Center, 60202 Bodnar Lane, offers the monoclonal antibody Bamlanivimab, produced by Lilly, and an antibody cocktail produced by Regeneron to patients who are 65 and older, or those with other risk factors such as obesity and diabetes.
Lilly chose the St. Joseph Health System site, at Elm and Jackson roads, to set up one of three regional infusion centers across Indiana in an effort to distribute antibody treatments that have received emergency approval from the FDA.
Wow! The St Joseph County Health Department, department staff and volunteers at St. Hedwig Memorial Hall’s coronavirus shot venue all really did a fantastic job of organizing and administering the
The number of hospitalizations from COVID-19 have dropped significantly from the mid-November surge in St. Joseph County, while the area has seen only a âslight bumpâ in cases in the wake of the holidays, Dr. Mark Fox, the countyâs deputy health officer, said Friday.
Meanwhile, he said more than 8,400 first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in the county so far, with about 1,400 people having received both of the two doses that are required to be fully vaccinated.
He joined other public officials in giving an update Friday on the countyâs and South Bendâs efforts to deal with the pandemic.
