(WTOC) - Washed out dirt roads in some parts of Screven County has left more than an expensive mess. It’s even caused changes to school bus pickups for parents in our area. You can still see some of the ruts in a stretch of Quail Road. County crews say it will take more than a weekend of sunshine to get these roads back in shape. Signs warned drivers of potential mud pits ahead. Elsewhere, washouts left pieces of underground drain pipes exposed.

(WTOC) - A Sylvania couple has been charged with assisting the previously escaped inmate in Screven County. According to the sheriff’s office, 39-year-old Tammy Copeland Edwards and her husband, 35-year-old Daniel Lamar Edwards, have been arrested and charged with hindering apprehension of a criminal. That charge is a felony in Georgia and carries a penalty of up to five years in prison. The sheriff’s office says the couple did not help Frederick Lamont Jones escape, the charges stem from acts that took place in the following days.

The McCall family also raises beef cattle, hogs and sheep. McCall replaces Gerald Long, who retired from the position after serving as GFB president since 2016. Long, of Bainbridge, served on the GFB Board of Directors in various roles since 1999 including GFB 9th District director, GFB South Georgia vice  president and GFB 1st vice president.
