Coats From Carol gave out free winter coats to kids in Scranton on Saturday. Author: WNEP Web Staff Updated: 7:19 PM EST December 19, 2020
A woman from Scranton found a way to honor her mother s memory and help those in need at the same time.
Katrina Oleski organized the Coats From Carol coat drive held today in North Scranton.
She collected new or gently used winter coats over the last few months to give to local children today. My reasoning for doing it is in honor of my late mother, Carol Oleski. She was very involved with the children, she was on the Scranton School Board and today is to give back to the children because that s what she would be doing if she were still here, said Katrina Oleski of Scranton.

City property owners will see their school taxes increase 3.9% next year, under a balanced budget approved by the Scranton School Board on Monday night.
The district eliminated a $4.1 million budget shortfall through several measures, including delaying interest payments on new debt, adjusting projected health care costs and reducing the number of special education aides employed through outside agencies.
Directors passed the $166.5 million budget with an 8-1 vote, with Director Sean McAndrew dissenting.
The districtâs financial recovery plan calls for raising taxes to the maximum allowed by the state each year. With a tax increase of 3.9%, or 5.4 mills, the owner of a property assessed at $10,000 would pay an additional $54 next year. A mill is a $1 tax on every $1,000 of assessed property value. The districtâs total millage rate will rise to 143 mills.
A Scranton woman well-known in local Democratic politics and with plenty of managerial experience sounds like she wants the job of collecting the cityâs taxes.
Cathy Nealon Wechsler, 60, said Friday sheâs âpretty sureâ she will run for tax collector in 2021.
The job will come open after next year because the law bars Tax Collector Bill Fox from seeking a third four-year term.
Wechsler could have company on the Democratic ballot.
City Councilman
This could get interesting.
When Donahue won his council seat four years ago, he made it through a six-candidate Democratic contest to win one of three council seats. Donahue finished second well behind current council President
