South Carolina health officials have issued an order to âcorrect undesirable level of air contaminantsâ for the New Indy Containerboard Plant in Indian Land, after months of complaints about a foul odor in the area. On Friday, DHEC released a report with the results from the inspections. View the order from the department here. The US Environmental Protection Agency confirmed that concentrated levels of hydrogen sulfide at the facility were the cause of the odor. According to health officials, the undesirable levels of air contaminants at the facility are âinjurious to human health or welfare or are unreasonably interfering with enjoyment of life or use of property,â and must be fixed. DHEC has ordered the facility submit a corrective plan to the department and to eliminate the foul odor by June 15.
