Unemployment rate stood at 4.7% in June in Albany-Schenectady-Troy area | The Daily Gazette SECTIONS ALBANY Unemployment stood at an estimated 4.7% in the Albany Metro area in June, the state Department of Labor reported Tuesday. That was down substantially from 10.4% in June 2020, when the state was emerging from the partial shutdown of the economy imposed to slow the spread of COVID-19.  But the recovery is not complete: The June 2021 unemployment rate was higher than any June from 2014 to 2019 in the Albany-Schenectady-Troy Metropolitan Statistical Area. Its jobless rate was just 3.4% in June 2019. By this metric, the Albany Metro fared better in June 2021 than either the state as a whole (7.3%) or the nation (6.1%). 

UPDATE: Severe thunderstorm warning includes Livingston County

The warning, in effect until 11:15 p.m., also includes southern Monroe, Ontario and southwestern Wayne counties. At 8:07 p.m., Weather Service Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the warned area. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have fallen. Some locations that will experience flooding include Canandaigua, Geneseo, Avon, Mount Morris, Victor, Honeoye Falls, Conesus, Bristol, Caledonia, Lima, Clifton Springs, Scottsville, Bloomfield, Honeoye, Hemlock, Farmington, Mendon, Gorham, East Bloomfield and Rush. Additional rainfall amounts up to 1 inch are possible in the warned area, the Weather Service said. UPDATE, 8 p.m.: As thunderstorms continue across the region, the National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for northeastern Livingston County, southeastern Monroe County, Ontario County and southern Wayne County until 8: 45 p.m.
