Across New York state as a whole and in the Capital Region, Black people are arrested at a far greater rate than white people relative to their percentage of the population, Hispanic people at a somewhat greater rate and Asians at a much lower rate. Black adults are arrested in New York significantly more often than white adults (136,219 vs. 118,952 times in 2019), despite white New Yorkers outnumbering black New Yorkers by nearly 4 to 1.

There is also agreement that after the war Machin settled in Charleston in Montgomery County, south of the Mohawk River. But Bevis Longstreth, in his recent historical novel “Chains Across the River,” disputes an account that Machin had supported the cause of liberty as far back as 1773 when he supposedly was one of the men who threw tea into Boston Harbor.

COVID-19 Safety Precautions in Place; Reservations Required The New York Power Authority today announced the opening of its newly constructed NY Energy Zone , an admission-free NYPA visitors center in Utica that provides an immersive, interactive, state-of-the-art museum experience focused on the past, present and future of energy in New York State. Beginning on Monday, May 10, and in accordance with New York State Indoor Family Entertainment Centers guidelines, the facility will be open for small, guided tours on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The 15,000-square-foot facility is designed for visitors of all ages and features unique exhibits that simulate flying a drone to check power transmission lines, controlling electricity on a model energy grid, operating a simulated power plant, and building a table-top micro power grid, along with many other activities designed to teach visitors about energy and electricity in New York State.

Legislators start new push for federal limo safety improvements | The Daily Gazette SECTIONS Shares0 CAPITAL REGION – New York’s two U.S. senators and all three Capital Region members of Congress have launched their latest push for  new federal limousine safety legislation in response to the 2018 stretch limousine crash in Schoharie County that killed 20 people in the deadliest U.S. crash in a decade. A bipartisan group that includes Democrats Paul D. Tonko and Antonio Delgado and Republican Elise Stefanik last year proposed safety legislation that was included in a transportation funding bill that cleared the House of Representatives, but stalled in the U.S. Senate.
