Almost 60% of Scots believe Alex Salmond should not be included in televised leaders’ debates ahead of May’s Scottish Parliament election, according to exclusive new polling.
The opinion poll, carried out for The Sunday Post by Survation, found 59% of those asked believe the Alba Party leader should not be included in the broadcasts, while 27% said he should and a further 14% said they don’t know.
So far the leaders of all of Holyrood’s main political parties, including both co-leaders of the Scottish Greens and SNP depute leader Keith Brown – who filled in for Nicola Sturgeon during a BBC Question Time special, have appeared.

What does Alex Salmond s party have to say to the million Scots who voted to leave the EU? I WOULD agree wholeheartedly with my civic colleague Councillor Chris McEleny of the Alba Party that while the Greens are making a bold stance by looking at maritime legislation to try and remove Trident from the Clyde, it is only independence and the regaining of Scottish sovereignty which will give us that power (Only with power of independence will Scotland get rid of weapons, April 12). However, the extent to which post-independence parties in the new Scottish Parliament wish to negotiate that power away will depend on whether we can remove nuclear weapons from Scottish soil in reality or not.
