MaineHealth opens COVID-19 vaccination clinics to walk-ins

Beginning next week, MaineHealth will open its COVID-19 vaccination clinics in Rockland and Belfast to walk-in patients. Next week’s clinics to be held on Tuesday, May 4, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the clinic in the former MBNA complex in Belfast; and on Wednesday, May 5, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Rockland clinic at 409 Old County Road. The number of walk-in slots are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis to any Maine resident 18 years of age older. Walk-ins should be prepared for the possibility that all slots will have been filled before their arrival.

Gouldsboro Police Log Week of April 29 Reckless driving reported on West Bay Road GOULDSBORO A report of reckless driving on the West Bay Road, where a triple fatal accident occurred earlier this year, and a car-deer accident topped last week’s Gouldsboro Police Department log of incidents around town.  On Tuesday, April 20, Herman Anderson of Corea was driving on Route 194 (Corea Road) when his 2021 Subaru Crosstrek struck a deer. Anderson was uninjured. His vehicle was functional and could be driven away from the scene, according to Police Chief John Shively, who took the late accident report.  On Thursday, April 22, the chief took a complaint of reckless driving on the West Bay Road. No further details were provided.

Three scientists to conduct new research in ANP April 22, 2021 on Environment, News ACADIA NAT’L PARK Three scientists have been awarded fellowships to conduct research in Acadia National Park as part of Second Century Stewardship, an initiative of the National Park Service, Schoodic Institute at Acadia National Park and the National Park Foundation.  The new awards will support research that will inform management of land, water, wildlife and cultural resources in Acadia, as well as supporting public engagement with park science.  The 2021 Second Century Stewardship Fellows are Melina Giakoumis, doctoral candidate at City University of New York; Caitlin Littlefield, research assistant professor in the Rubenstein School of Environment and Natural Resources at the University of Vermont; and Christina Murphy, assistant unit leader of the USGS Maine Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit at the University of Maine.

Camden National Bank has announced a $10,000 donation to the LifeFlight Foundation to help provide vital medical support to people across Maine. This is the eighth year that Camden National Bank will be a major sponsor for the Cross for LifeFlight. The signature fundraising event, which began in 2013 as a swim across west Penobscot Bay from Northport to Islesboro, has now become a statewide, month-long event that encourages participants to cross whatever part of Maine suits them. Participants can swim, row, paddle, hike, walk or bike all while tracking their progress in the event’s proprietary online system.
