World Record for Sheepdog Pup at Skipton Sale
Welshman Kevin Evans was top dog on price yet again at Skipton Auction Mart’s first online working sheep dog sale of 2021, selling three fully broken dogs for a combined £35,600, while his father David established a new world record price of £6,100 for an unbroken pup.
While none of the top-notch Evans trio was able to get near the £20,000 all-time world record price he established at Skipton last autumn with a red bitch, Henna, almost four-years-old, all three dogs at the latest sale achieved five-figure prices for the legendary breeder and triallist, who has been setting the working sheep dog world alight of late with his charges, many related to the handler’s high profile trials champions.

With planned show classes cancelled, Jeff Aiken, flock manager at Procters Farm, based at Moss House Farm, Wennington, close to the Lancashire-Yorkshire border, hit the headlines when stepping up with a high price in-lamb shearling ewe hat-trick, leading the way at 3,200gns with a March, 2019, daughter of the highly acclaimed Garngour Alabama son, Sportsmans Batman, a notable 100,000gns purchase last year.

More than 64million meals were enjoyed UK-wide under the initiative – which saw diners claim a 50% discount on food and drinks on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays, during August, up to a maximum of £10 off per person. The scheme was enthusiastically welcomed by the hospitality industry and across Scotland butchers saw a huge demand for beef to accommodate the rise in high-end steak orders from chefs.
Addingham & District Sheep Breeders’ Association staged its 14th annual show and sale at Skipton Auction Mart when local farmer Chris Ryder stepped up with the supreme champion for the second year running, a North of England Mule wether lamb which netted a whopping £1,150 when later sold not once, but multiple times in aid of Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice, Oxenhope. The victor was one of many lambs and additional sale items donated by ever-generous local farming communities, along with other kind-hearted individuals, and the West Yorkshire hospice this year benefited to the tune of £4,121 in total. The fact that this was on a par with last year’s overall figure proved a superb result when bearing in mind restrictions governing the reduced number of people currently allowed in auction mart sale rings in order to ensure safe distancing. Over the years, the seasonal showcase has raised over £50,000 for Sue Ryder Manorlands.
