People living in the village of Runswick Bay have asked Scarborough Council to provide more facilities in the village, which was named as Britain’s best beach last year by the Sunday Times.
The council closed a set of toilets at the top of the village in 2017 due to a lack of demand and it had been hoped that decision could be reversed.
Yesterday, the council’s portfolio holder for Neighbourhoods, Cllr Tony Randerson, told a meeting of the authority’s full council that he had visited Runswick Bay and felt the current facilities at the bottom of the village were “adequate”.

The authority’s planning committee today (Tues) again decided it needed more information from the Highways Authority about the scheme, which has significant local objections.
It was the second time in less than four weeks that Scarborough Council’s planning committee had met to discuss the plans by Wharfedale Homes Limited to put 62 homes in a field off Green Lane, not far from the iconic structure which looms over the town.

In March, Thompson Property was granted permission to build 14 start-up units on the Manor Road Nurseries land, which was once used to grow bedding plants for the borough by the council’s Parks and Countryside Service.
The site was sold after Scarborough Council moved the service to its Dean Road depot.
