As of Sunday, according to the Maryland Department of Health, 39,255 people have received the required first and second doses of the vaccine. The department reports 319,007 people have received the first dose.

Biden s inauguration came at a time of national tumult and uncertainty, a ceremony of resilience as the hallowed American democratic rite unfurled at a U.S. Capitol battered by an insurrectionist siege just two weeks ago. The chilly Washington morning was dotted with snow flurries, but the sun emerged just before Biden took the oath of office, the quadrennial ceremony persevering even though it was encircled by security forces evocative of a war zone and devoid of crowds because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Two different Maryland retailers have sold jackpot-winning tickets worth millions of dollars on Wednesday. A Powerball ticket worth $731.1.million was sold at Coney Market in Lonaconing, while a $2 million second-tier winning ticket with the Power Play option was sold at AC&T #130 in Hagerstown.
The Jan. 20 drawing marks Maryland’s first Powerball win since 2011 and third overall. The previous two Powerball jackpot prizes in the state were $128.8 million in December 2011 in Elkton and $108.8 million in September 2011 in Abingdon.

Powerball drawing,” said Maryland Lottery and Gaming Director Gordon Medenica. “This is a truly exciting day for Maryland as we wait to see who will step forward to claim the jackpot and the $2 million prize.�
