8 Tulsa District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Commander Col. Scott Preston and Chief of Engineering and Construction Division, Kathryn White met with employees and contractors on many of Tulsa District’s military construction projects at military bases within the district during the week of Dec. 14. “The military construction projects we manage on the Army and Air Force installations lead directly to the readiness of our force,” said Preston. “The Tulsa District must engage with various commanders and military partners to better understand their needs and concerns with each project.”
As Commander of Tulsa District, Preston oversees a variety of projects. The visit began with a tour of the new reception station barracks at Fort Sill. The new construction project will serve as in-processing housing for new soldiers on the base.
The Normal Town Council met remotely Monday, Dec. 21, 2020.
The Normal Town Council voted overwhelmingly Monday night to waive next year’s liquor license fees for certain businesses negatively affected by Restore Illinois’ pandemic closures and restrictions.
Restaurants and bars, in particular, have suffered losses after bans on indoor dining.
But businesses that violate such pandemic restrictions in the upcoming year will be required to pay the license fee renewal.
The waiver OK d Monday complements federal and state relief, said council member Karyn Smith.
She said eliminating the liquor license fee for 2021 allowed Normal, “at the local level, to provide some specific relief to an industry sector that has been hard hit as we attempt to battle this pandemic,” said council member Karyn Smith.
At least one good thing has happened to Omaha musician David Murphy in 2020.
He finished a new album, âThe Lesser Gabors,â to follow 2014âs âMy Fraudulent Memoirs.â Itâs his first recording of his own songs since he suffered an ocular stroke a few years back.
Slowdowns during the pandemic gave him more opportunities to focus on his 15-track collection, available at davidpmurphy.bandcamp.com or davidpmurphy.com.
âI had time to work and polish up new songs, too, and Iâm proud of the result,â he said. âLearning to navigate recording with a visual impairment has certainly been, shall we say, interesting. But hey, Iâm grateful to still be here.â
