Missouri GOP Rep. Vicky Hartzler (MO-4) announced Thursday that she is running for the state s open U.S. Senate seat in 2022. The current incumbent, Republican Roy Blunt, is retiring.
Hartzler joins former Gov. Eric Greitens and Attorney General Eric Schmitt in the race. Also in the race is attorney Mark McCloskey who gained a measure of fame during last summer s Black Lives Matter protests. Most of Hartzler s GOP colleagues in the state delegation have also given consideration to running. The most prominent Democrat to announce is former State Sen. Scott Sifton. The current consensus rating is Likely Republican.
KMBC 9 News has learned another challenger has entered the ring for Missouri s hotly contested soon-to-be-open U.S. Senate seat Rep. Vicky Hartzler of Harrisonville.Since Roy Blunt announced he wouldn t be seeking re-election in early March, a long list of candidates have announced their Senate run, such as former Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens, current state Attorney General Eric Schmitt, St. Louis lawyer Mark McCloskey, former state Sen. Scott Sifton, activist Timothy Shepard and Lucas Kunce.Hartzler, who has been serving in the U.S. House since 2010 and was previously in the Missouri legislature, became the latest to enter the race. While Hartzler has not officially announced she is in the race, a source told KMBC 9 News: “Vicky has been giving serious consideration to running for U.S. Senate and will be holding a special announcement regarding her future plans next Thursday.”In the political world, she is known as an outspoken opponent of abortion, the Affordable Care Act

Jun. 3 Missouri Rep. Vicky Hartzler has scheduled a campaign event next week amid widespread anticipation she will enter the 2022 Republican primary for the chance to replace retiring Sen. Roy Blunt.
In an email to supporters Thursday, Hartzler teased a Special Campaign Announcement for June 10 in Lee s Summit. The event will take place ahead of the Missouri Republican Party s annual Lincoln Days gathering in Kansas City that weekend.
Hartzler would be the first member of Congress to enter the Republican field, which already includes Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt, former Gov. Eric Greitens and St. Louis lawyer Mark McCloskey, best known for brandishing a firearm at Black Lives Matter protesters.
