As a child, it wasn’t Christmas until Eric Depradine’s grandmother uncorked her home-brewed hibiscus drink. Made from the vibrant magenta-colored tropical bloom, the drink had a tart cranberry-like flavor.
An immigrant from the village of Manzanilla on the island of Trinidad, Ena Depradine (pronounced deh-PRAH-deen) settled in Boston in the 1970s, and she brought with her knowledge of how to make a variety of fermented beverages using honey, fruits, flowers, herbs and spices.

Dwindling membership is an issue many veteran organizations are facing statewide and those nestled in Western Maine have not been immune.
Several members of Mundt-Allen American Legion Post 81 in Bethel gathered at the local airport to discuss issues facing the American Legion. A big problem, and one that has plagued organizations nationwide, is building and maintaining membership. Once enjoying more than 100 active members, Post 81 is now at 66. The decline has occurred over 20 years.
Claremore Parents Upset After Special Needs Student Was Left Alone On Bus
Parents of a Claremore student are still trying to understand how their child was left behind on a school bus.
The district said it deeply regrets what happened and is grateful the student is OK. Three adults missed my kid,” Allie Spencer, the student’s mother, said.
Spencer and Scott Cole told News On 6 their 7-year-old son, who has special needs, is still traumatized days after being abandoned on a school bus. He was, like, walking back and forth on the bus and somebody had just happened to see him that was walking around the lot,” Spencer said.
Stephen Peru Cole Jr. of Longview, Tx. passed away Thursday, January 14, 2021 at the age of 93.
Steve was born on November 29, 1927 in Minden, Louisiana to Willie Lee and Stephen P. Cole Sr. He grew up in a tough era and was proud of his Louisiana heritage. He graduated from Minden High School in 1945 and soon after enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the age of 17. After returning home, he attended college at Northwestern State, where he earned his Bachelors Degree in Finance in 1951. It was in college where Steve met the love of his life, Babe. They married in 1950 and soon after started their family.
