Cancel culture targets Sheriff Kane

I was hardly surprised by the outpouring of vitriol against Hancock County Sheriff Scott Kane since the story broke last week that back in June he revoked a county jail contract with Healthy Acadia. Kane took that action after the Ellsworth nonprofit announced its solidarity with Black Lives Matter.
Kane spoke the truth about BLM, and his truth-speaking provoked shrieks of outrage from all the usual woke suspects.
What we learned from the reaction to Kane’s comments is that even the mildest criticism of Black Lives Matter is regarded by leftists as blasphemy.

Jail contract is to be restored; calls for sheriffâs resignation
ELLSWORTH â Community members and Hancock County Commissioner John Wombacher have called for Sheriff Scott Kaneâs resignation over Kaneâs decision last spring to terminate Healthy Acadiaâs recovery coaching services to Hancock County Jail inmates. That decision came after Healthy Acadia issued a statement supporting Black Lives Matter.
At the start of a commissioners meeting held virtually Tuesday, board Chairman Bill Clark said details of an agreement should be finished this week to return recovery coaching to the jail as soon as Friday.Â

ELLSWORTH A nonprofit that helps inmates recover from substance abuse could be allowed back in the Hancock County Jail starting Friday, seven months after the agency lost access over its support for Black Lives Matter.
County Commissioner Bill Clark, Healthy Acadia Executive Director Elsie Flemings and Sheriff Scott Kane met Monday morning.
Clark said Monday afternoon that as a result of Monday morning’s meeting, a memorandum agreement is being drafted and should be finalized by Friday.
