Rochester Red Wings fall in walk-off fashion on Opening Night
Red Wings Baseball is back. And so are all the ups and downs that come with it.
The Wings lost in walk-off fashion, 6-5, Tuesday night against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs at Coca-Cola Park in Allentown, PA.
A back-and-forth affair saw the Wings take the lead in the 10th on a Gerardo Parra RBI single and another lead in the 11th on an RBI knock from Jake Noll, but it was Scott Kingery’s two-out, two-run double in the bottom of the 11th that sent the IronPigs to the win on Opening Night.
MLB Trade Rumors
The Phillies have agreed to a minor league contract with veteran infielder
Ruben Tejada, tweets MLB Network’s Jon Heyman. The Primetime Sports client will presumably head to their Triple-A affiliate to open the season.
Outside of a brief, six-game resurgence with the 2019 Mets, we haven’t seen Tejada at the big league level since a rough showing with the Orioles back in 2017. He appeared in 41 games for the O’s that year and managed only a tepid .230/.293/.283 output in 124 trips to the plate.
The vast majority of Tejada’s career has come with the Mets, for whom he served as an oft-used utility infielder from his MLB debut as a 20-year-old in 2010 up through the 2015 season. Tejada logged significant action at shortstop, second base and third base in Queens and, in 2194 plate appearances as a Met, has posted a .254/.328/.322 batting line.

Rhys Hoskins is one of the worst-fielding first baseman in the league so far. Did Gregorius has been not only one of the worst shortstops defensively but one of the worst defensive players as a whole this year. And all of the Phillies centerfielders have been trash (more on that later). We need to clean it up, manager Joe Girardi said after a bevy of defensive missteps cost the Phillies in their wacky 8-7 loss to the Mets back on Sunday.
That s an understatement.
If the Phillies simply made the fundamental plays a major league team is supposed to like throwing to the correct base or not bobbling routine double-play balls, they d probably have a few more wins (they are 6-6 in their 12 one-run games so far). Playing solid defense is simple but it will go a long way in fixing what ails this team.

The Mets said all the right things in their pregame hours on Sunday, acknowledging that they understood Major League Baseball’s decision to fine Dominic Smith and Miguel Castro for their roles in Friday’s bases-clearing incident at Citizens Bank Park, but hinting that the situation was unfair. In the Mets’ minds, Phillies reliever José Alvarado was far more to blame than Smith, Castro, or anyone else wearing blue and orange.
