Tallevast, Florida, is a predominantly Black, unincorporated community between Manatee and Sarasota Counties. If anyone outside of the area knows of the town of fewer than eighty homes spread across two square miles, it is likely because, about twenty years ago, its groundwater was discovered to have been poisoned by the manufacture of weapons-grade beryllium during the Cold War.

Officials bust smuggling ring that brought contraband into Morgan Co. Correctional

MORGAN COUNTY, Tenn. A scheme to introduce contraband into the Morgan County Correctional Complex (MCCX) began to unravel last month after a simple traffic stop.
According to the Tennessee Department of Corrections (TDOC), an Oliver Springs police officer pulled David Pope, 52, over on January 25.
The officer found that Pope, who is currently on parole, had about 30 cellphones and drugs, including marijuana, MDMA, meth, cocaine, and suboxone.
Norma Jean Duncan, 79, of Corbin, passed away Monday, January 11, 2021. She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd “Huie” Duncan.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, January 15, in the Hart Funeral Home Chapel with Brent Carroll and Scott Carroll officiating. Burial will follow in Dunn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:30 A.M. – 1:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home. Hart Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
