Almost £10,000 was raised by Llanidloes shoppers for local causes during the coronavirus lockdown. The money has come from the Co-op Local Community Fund, which has handed out more than £9,660 in funding to three community projects in Llanidloes. Deborah Peck from St Idloes Friday Club and Youth Club expressed her excitement at receiving £3,059.99 towards the project. She said: “Such a fantastic amount of money. We are so pleased and it will help our young people, children and families so much. “We are immensely grateful to the people of Llanidloes and area too for supporting us via their purchases at Co-op. I am truly overwhelmed and very grateful, I can’t wait to share the news with our young people.”
A CHALLENGE to get children reading during lockdown has been a success. The Summer Reading Challenge, which was available through Llanidloes Library, encouraged children to set themselves a reading challenge to help prevent the summer reading ‘dip’. Children who completed the challenges received a medal and certificate and this year were also entered into the Co-op Silly Squad Challenge Prize Draw - a chance for a child to win their very own book. Co-op member pioneer Zoe Brandon said: “Co-op is focused on protecting our community’s public spaces, improving the mental and physical health of people in our communities and learning new skills.
