Representatives from the American Foundation For Suicide Prevention will be set up just outside the entrance to the Salem Fair this weekend to raise awareness and provide information.
AFSP members will also be providing information about the upcoming Out of the Darkness fundraiser walks to be held Saturday, October 2 in Roanoke/Salem and in Lynchburg at Riverfront Park.

SALEM, Va. (WSET) The juvenile responsible for Wednesday night’s shooting at the Salem Fair has been charged with two counts of malicious wounding, two counts of using a firearm in the commission of a felony, and carrying a concealed weapon.
The suspect, who is under the age of 16, is being held at the Roanoke Detention Center.
One of the victims was a juvenile and the second victim was an adult male.
The victims were not acquaintances and neither one of them knew the shooter.
Both victims were transported to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital by Salem Fire and EMS personnel last night.

SALEM, Va. A boy under the age of 16 faces felony charges after police say he shot two people who were attending the opening night of the Salem Fair, leaving one with serious injuries.
Officers with the Salem Police Department were patrolling at the fair when they heard gunshots around 9 p.m. on Wednesday before they saw someone with a gun who they captured after a brief chase.
Fairgoers were already clearing out of the midway because of an approaching thunderstorm when the melee started, sending patrons fleeing for safety.
According to police, one of the victims was also a juvenile, while the second victim was a man. His name was not disclosed. His condition was unavailable on Thursday.

Salem Fair officials say that the fair will reopen and continue to operate as scheduled through July 11.
Fairgoers will be subject to bag searches and electronic wanding at the gate.
There will be an increased police presence at the fair.
Fair hours are weekdays 4pm – 11pm and weekends 12 noon – 11pm.
Children 17 years and younger MUST be accompanied by an adult parent or guardian with valid I.D. while on the fairgrounds.
