HOULTON, Maine The Houlton Police Department responded to the following incidents from through the month of January 2021.
Sunday, Jan. 31
1:25 a.m. Officer McGuire responded to Park Street to investigate a disturbance.
8 a.m. Officer Heath responded to Randall Avenue for a well-being check.
12:04 p.m. Sgt. Janakis responded to Hartford Street to assist a citizen.
ESOPUS, N.Y. â The state has granted the town $430,200 toward $561,100 in costs for culvert repairs on Dashville Road and Hardenburg Road.Â
The projects were discussed during a meeting last week, with Supervisor Shannon Harris saying after the session that the town s share of project costs will be covered by the use of Highway Department equipment and crews.
âThese two culverts . represent both an inconvenience in terms of community flooding as well as a habitat impediment,â she said.

Funding will come from the state Department of Environmental Conservationâs Hudson River Estuary Program for tributary restoration and resiliency.
PORT EWEN, N.Y. â A two-alarm fire on Salem Street displaced a family Friday afternoon, Dec. 18, authorities said.
The blaze at 216 Salem St. was reported at 1:56 p.m. Friday and firefighters saw heavy smoke coming from the eaves and windows of the second floor of the two-story home upon arrival, Port Ewen Fire Chief Roger Brandt said.
The fire was knocked down in about 40 minutes but had extended into the walls and ceiling, requiring âextensive overhaul,â Brandt said.

The cause of the fire was not immediately available.

An East Baton Rouge Parish grand jury has indicted three men on rape counts and two of them on kidnapping charges, in separate August incidents.
Jonathan Reid Dejean, 26, of the 12000 block of York Street, is accused of raping a 12-year-old girl on Aug. 11 and Aug. 12 at his Baton Rouge residence. He s charged with two counts each of first-degree rape and aggravated kidnapping of a child.
A second indictment accuses Jacob Paul Parker, 21, of the 4500 block of Beaver Creek Drive in Greenwell Springs, of raping a 10-year-old girl on Aug. 15 at his home. He is charged with first-degree rape and second-degree kidnapping.
