Mark Bennett, 51, of Traquair, has been sentenced at Selkirk Sheriff Court A PEEBLESSHIRE man found with hundreds of pornographic photographs of children has been placed on the Sex Offenders Register for the next three years. Mark Bennett, 51, pleaded guilty to a second charge of making indecent images of children including a 14-year-old girl. The offences happened at his Traquair home near Innerleithen between December 2011 and February 2020. As a direct alternative to custody he was given a three-year Community Payback Order with supervision and also conduct requirements. Defence lawyer Mark Harrower told Selkirk Sheriff Court his client was embarrassed at the offences and had lost his job as a financial adviser as a result.
Background reports have been ordered at Selkirk Sheriff Court into 30-year-old Kerrie Campbell of Woodstock Avenue, Galashiels. She pleaded guilty to stealing a quantity of electronic items, clothing and food totalling £1,000 from a disabled client between June 1 and October 1, 2018. The court heard that Campbell became the main carer for two disabled men, assisting them with household tasks, attending college, outings and organising a shopping list. But in 2018 relatives of one of the men became suspicious that Campbell was taking advantage. A check on one shopping trip to Tesco paid for by one of the men s bank card, on a day Campbell was rostered to work, revealed that dog food, a unicorn and confetti were purchased which the man would not have bought and he also did not have a dog.
A 43-year-old Borders man caught in an online child sex sting at Edinburgh’s Royal Commonwealth Pool has been jailed after breaching his supervision order three times.
