Proposal that would temporarily lower graduation credit requirement dies in FPS Board of Education meeting

Kids in southern Ontario can return to school safely, despite higher community spread of COVID-19, says Dr. Peter Jüni, scientific director of the Ontario COVID-19 Science Advisory Table. But he says it will be a challenge that needs to be well-managed. A proposal that would have temporarily lowered the number of required graduation credits at Fremont High School died on the floor during Monday’s Fremont Public Schools Board of Education meeting, potentially putting the prospect of receiving a diploma out of reach for dozens of FHS seniors. The proposal failed to reach a vote after a motion to pass the proposal didn’t receive a second.

SPM NEWS 1.15.20 - 4:32PM The Sioux City Community School District’s Weekly COVID-19 report shows only one new positive case among teachers and staff and no students.  The district also released information about total cases and quarantines and those numbers show 19 students and 17 teachers and staff were out with the illness.  Nine staff members were in quarantine and 245 students. The school district started the first two weeks of 2021 in virtual learning and will go back to five days of face-to-face learning next week.
