Former Delirious? frontman and prolific singer, songwriter and worship leader in his own right, Martin Smith, has just released his first studio album in six years - and it was definitely worth the wait. Iron Lung sees Smith returning to those epic electric guitars and drums that so often became associated with the sound of Delirious? but were noticeably absent in the God s Great Dance Floor offerings of 2012-13. This album isn t just a returning to something past however, it is a creation of a whole new sound. Smith has the incredible ability to create music that would comfortably be played in an underground rock club, whilst simultaneously being sung as anthems of worship in churches around the world, and Iron Lung is no exception. Ohio-based rapper Armond Wakeup crams a lot into this three minute single including his views on white influence on religion ( I was not force-fed Jesus by Europeans ) and cause and effect ( I don t believe in karma - the universe isn t God ) whilst offering up intelligent comment on skin colour and modern tolerance which may make you nod your head in agreement. Wakeup succeeds in backing up everything he says with God s truth and even has the time to offer up the nugget of advice if you complain more than you change, give it a rest to showcase the man s standing as a sage observer of these strange times. Instrumental and a cappella versions are thrown into the mix for good measure.
