In a cold Sunday afternoon, Colby Townsend is feeding 3,000 Rhode Island Red hens that lay 14,700 brown eggs each week at Hayden Fresh Farm south of the small town of Hayden in northwest Colorado.
Small business co-owners Townsend and his wife, Michelle, have not been able to take a day off since mid-March last year when pandemic-related restaurant restrictions hit their wholesale accounts hard. In a rollercoaster business year, the couple worked 12 hours a day reacting to the changes necessary to keep the farm aloft.

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS Wildhorse 6 Stadium Cinemas General Manager Brent Almon is looking forward to being able to rehire his furloughed employees before the sole movie theater in Routt County reopens again, hopefully on Memorial Day weekend.
The theater that often provides the first job experience for a crew of as many as 20 teenagers and young adults has been closed since November 2020. The theater was hit with double trouble dealing with a pandemic as well as a burst water pipe due to a late winter cold snap that damaged flooring and some electrical wiring in the empty building.

Josh and Toni German from Denver had dreams for years of living full-time in a mountain town, but jobs kept them tied to the Front Range.
During the pandemic’s work-from-home requirements, the Germans took the step to relocate to a quiet neighborhood west of Steamboat Springs.
“We were working remotely because of COVID, and basically we decided we were going to make the leap and let our bosses know,” said Toni German, who works in brand management. “If they needed us to come back in, we agreed to be willing to visit the Front Range offices several times a month.”
