COLUMBUS, Ohio – Andre Hill s only daughter said Thursday that former police officer Adam Coy messed with the wrong family. This is what s supposed to happen when another person murders somebody, Karissa Hill said.
The family of Hill, a 47-year-old unarmed Black man killed by Coy on Dec. 22, said Thursday morning they took the first step in what they called a journey for justice. Coy was indicted and charged Wednesday with murder, felonious assault and dereliction of duty.
Hill s family, accompanied by civil rights attorney Ben Crump, spoke Thursday in Columbus about the indictment returned by a Franklin County grand jury.

Civil rights attorney Ben Crump and the family of Andre Hill spoke publicly for the first time since a former Columbus police officer was charged with murder in Hill s death.
“We were very relieved, but we’re not satisfied because we know, based on the history in America, when an unarmed Black man is killed by white police, the indictment doesn’t mean a conviction,” Crump said during a Thursday press conference, which can be watched below.

Andre Hill s family says lack of aid right after fatal shooting was unbelievable
The former Columbus police officer accused of killing Andre Hill was indicted for murder this week. Hill s only child, Karissa, said the family will not be satisfied until former officer Adam Coy is convicted. She lived with Hill and told CBS News Adriana Diaz that life at home isn t the same without her father. We weren t able to stay at the house. It s just too many.his stuff everywhere. His work bag by the door. His shoes, Karissa tearfully said.
Coy is accused of fatally shooting Hill, a 47-year-old Black man, within minutes after responding to a non-emergency call about a suspicious car in late December. Authorities said Hill was left lying on the ground for several minutes after he was shot. He died of his injuries, leaving behind Karissa and three grandchildren.
Andre Hill’s family is relieved that the ex-officer who killed him is indicted. But they’re not satisfied yet
“The family of Andre Hill is relieved this morning. But they are not satisfied with an indictment of the police officer who killed Andre Hill as he held a cell phone walking out of a garage,” family attorney Ben Crump said Thursday.
“The reason they are not satisfied is because we know, based on what has happened before in America, that when a white police officer kills an unarmed black person, that does not guarantee a conviction.”
Former Columbus police officer Adam Coy was indicted Wednesday on several charges, including murder in the commission of a felony, felonious assault and two counts of dereliction of duty related to Hill’s death.
Called Andre s Law after the late Andre Hill, 47, who was fatally shot Dec. 22 by former Columbus police officer Adam Coy outside a friend s house on the Northwest Side, the new ordinance states that the changes are needed to assure the safety of all Columbus residents.
The move came on the same night the city council also approved paying more than $1 million to the victim of another police shooting one of the largest cash settlements in city history and gave final approval to spending $250,000 to establish a police early warning system to alert supervisors to problem cops.
Hill s family called the law a necessary first step.
