joint sub-registrar was suspended on Thursday. The move follows a surprise visit of a squad led by deputy inspector general of registration (IGR) and deputy controller of stamps on Tuesday, which exposed a big scam in which registration officials are making a mockery of the entire system.
Joint sub-registrar AK Nandkar posted at the office Haveli No. 22 at Erandwane was suspended. State inspector general of registration and controller of stamps (IGR) Shravan Hardikar issued the order. A serious view has been taken as the subregistrar offices (
property registration offices) under the IGR are sensitive offices as lakhs of properties are registered and the ownership transferred. The offices give maximum revenue to run the state economy.

Just days after
Tata Motors Limited (
TML) over unregistered properties on its premises, resulting in dues of Rs 200 crore in commercial property tax, the civic body has cracked down on more instances of the same in its vast industrial belt.
Now, the twin towns’ civic administration has started a special drive only for industries under its jurisdiction to identify any instances of unregistered properties on their grounds.
Commenting on the development, PCMC deputy commissioner Smita Zagade confirmed, “We have started this drive for industries to identify properties that were not registered with PCMC records earlier. There are an estimated nearly 3,500 industrial units that have extended constructions on their campuses without the permission of the civic administration.”
