Date Time Culburra Local Owen Wright claims Bronze Medal at Olympic Games in Tok Shoalhaven City Council wishes to congratulate Culburra Beach surfer and Australian Olympian Owen Wright for his outstanding performance in the inaugural surfing competition claiming a Bronze Medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. Shoalhaven City Council Mayor Amanda Findley said his nail-biting performance yesterday in the surfing heats was an outstanding performance and that he has done both the Shoalhaven and Australia proud. “I would like to offer a massive congratulations to Owen Wright and his family, Tyler and Mikey, all local surfing legends born and bred on Shoalhaven waves – we couldn’t be prouder”, Clr Findley said.

All welcome at Thrive Together Fair

Date Time All welcome at Thrive Together Fair Shoalhaven City Council in partnership with Grand Pacific Health are hosting the Thrive Together Fair, as part of Homelessness Week 2021, for those people in the community who are “doing it tough”. The event will take place at the Shoalhaven Indoor Sports Centre, Bomaderry on Wednesday 4 August 2021 from 10.00am – 3.00pm. The last 18 months have been tough on many Shoalhaven residents, having supported one another during bushfires, flooding and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Council is inviting residents in the Shoalhaven who are doing it tough to come along to the Thrive Together Fair, a one-day free event that aims to connect people with the services and support they need in one location. This will also be a great opportunity to get to know new people and have some fun.

Young Archie Competition Comes to Shoalhaven

Date Time Young Archie Competition Comes to Shoalhaven Shoalhaven Regional Gallery are excited to announce the Shoalhaven Young Archie Competition. In partnership with the Art Gallery of NSW and Presenting Partner ANZ, Shoalhaven Regional Gallery are seeking entries for the Young Archie Awards ahead of the Archibald Prize 2020 Regional Tour which goes on display at the Gallery in September. The Art Gallery of NSW’s Young Archie competition began in 2013 and is an annual competition for children aged 5 to 18 years, with prizes provided by ANZ. Young artists are encouraged to submit an artwork of someone who is important in their life. The judges request, if possible, the portrait is ‘painted from life’ and that your subject has a sitting for their portrait, like with the Archibald Prize, this also includes a virtual sitting.

Shoalhaven River College Adopt-An-Estuary

Date Time Shoalhaven River College Adopt-An-Estuary Shoalhaven City Council has partnered with Shoalhaven River Collage to Adopt-An-Estuary as part of the Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources Communities Environment Program. Council’s Environmental Services Department designed the Adopt-An-Estuary Program for students, in year 10 and 11 at Shoalhaven River College, to develop their knowledge and skills in caring for the environment. Shoalhaven City Council Mayor Amanda Findley believes the program provided the students a skill for life. “Through the Adopt-An-Estuary Program Shoalhaven City Council staff have provided students with the knowledge and skills that will allow them to safely look after their local estuary for many years to come.” Clr Findley said.

It s National Desexing Month

Date Time It’s National Desexing Month Shoalhaven City Council is encouraging pet owners to have their pets desexed as National Desexing Month gets underway. July marks National Desexing Month with the Shoalhaven Animal Welfare League branch is offering local residents heavily discounted desexing rates during the month. To qualify for this offer you must have a pension or healthcare card and be a Shoalhaven resident. Since July 2020 the Shoalhaven Animal Shelter has seen 21 kittens and 15 puppies born at the Shelter, Shoalhaven City Council Mayor Amanda Findley said this shows how important it is to have your pets desexed. “Each year we see many kittens and puppies looking for homes following breeding season. It is important that pet owners have their animals desexed to help curb the number of unwanted litters in the region.” Clr Findley said.
