Ringside Physician Breaks Down Bizarre Shane Burgos Knockout
At UFC 262, Shane Burgos and Edson Barboza were having an amazing battle to open up the main card. In the third round, Barboza would hit Burgos with a clean right hand that he seemed to just brush off. About four seconds later, Burgos’ legs gave out, sending him backwards to the canvas. Barboza would then go and finish him about one minute into the third round. The delayed reaction was baffling and many suggested that Burgos was just to tough for his own good. Some of those people would appear to be right.

GOOD- Edson Barboza stops Shane Burgos
Barboza came out firing and landing some good kicks. No surprise there. Burgos fought back but Barboza did more damage in the first round. Burgos almost got stopped in the first round, but he made it through. The second round saw Burgos start landing heavy body shots. Barboza fired back but Burgos did a lot of damage. Some strangeness occurred in the third round, as Barboza caught Burgos clean with a good punch. Burgos seemed to shake it off, but then stumbled backwards towards the cage and Barboza finished him with punches. That was a very delayed reaction. Good win for Barboza.

On Saturday night at UFC 262, Edson Barboza and Shane Burgos were having a sensational fight when, in the third round, something bizarre happened. After walking through Barboza’s barrage of offense all fight without issue, Burgos ate another big right hand and once again seemed to shake it off. “Seemed” is the operative word there though because a full three seconds after the shot landed, Burgos’ legs suddenly gave out on him, sending him reeling backwards where Barboza followed up and finished the fight. The sheer length of time between the shot landing and Burgos going down was highly unusual leaving the UFC commentary team to speculate that Burgos was simply too tough for his own body, leading to the delayed reaction, and it turns out, that is likely true.
