For musician Darby, one 2020 door closed while another opened

Three years ago, making music wasn’t actively on Sarah Darby’s radar. Now, between the band Thinner Friends and as Madeline Darby, song has become an active creative endeavor.
Last June, the electro-punk outfit released an eponymous six-track EP. And in mid-January, Darby issued “Innovation,” her first full-length solo project. A blend of experimental rock, electronica and post-punk, “Innovation” is making waves, having already sold out the initial run of cassettes distributed by UK-based label Industrial Coast.
“This project kind of started about two-and-a-half years ago,” Darby said. “It’s my first time ever really doing any kind of formal release on my own. I had dreams of doing something like this, but never really had an outlet.”
