Sports Administration Director-General Chang Shao-hsi’s (張少熙) resignation yesterday drew mixed reactions from Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) legislators, with some saying that he made up for his errors by helping the nation to its best Olympic performance in Tokyo.
Chang tendered a request to quit soon after it was reported that the agency arranged for athletes to fly to the Tokyo Olympics in economy class, while government officials were in business class, despite President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) and Premier Su Tseng-chang (蘇貞昌) previously assuring the public that all national team athletes would be in business class.

Ninety-one restaurants and street vendors in Taipei and Taichung made the Michelin Guide’s Bib Gourmand list this year, including 19 that were listed for the first time, the Tourism Bureau said yesterday.
This year’s edition, with both the eateries awarded Michelin stars and the Bib Gourmand list, is to be officially released online on Aug. 25.
The Bib Gourmand list would usually be announced prior to the guide’s official release.
Eateries on the list allow customers to eat three of their dishes for less than NT$1,000, the bureau said.
Fifty-eight of the list’s eateries are in Taipei and 33 are in Taichung, while six
Singapore Airlines (SIA) yesterday announced that it would on Aug. 25 relaunch its direct service between Taipei and Los Angeles after having suspended it since 2008.
The flight will depart from Taiwan every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday at 5:50pm, and return from Los Angeles every Monday, Thursday and Saturday at 12:40am, the airline said.
It would use an Airbus A350-900 aircraft, which features 42 business class seats, 24 premium economy class seats and 187 economy class seats.
