The Lebanon Police Department (LPD) has identified a person of interest in a hit and run accident that resulted in the death of a Lebanon man on Dec. 29, according to Lebanon Police Assistant Chief Greg Young, “It’s not like we have nothing,” Young said. “We do have a little bit. We’re working on building that up to where we can officially say the person of interest has turned into an accused.” According to a media release from the LPD, at approximately 4:23 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 29, LPD received a call reporting an accident involving a pedestrian. Lebanon police officers and Marion County EMS responded to Hood Avenue near the intersection with Shelby Street and found Jerry Berentz, 81, of 306 Shelby Street lying in the roadway and badly injured.

Trigg County’s largest single-day increase in COVID-19 cases can be traced to an outbreak at a long-term care facility.
Officials with Better Senior Living on Shelby Street in Cadiz confirmed an outbreak of the virus at their facility. Administrator Maria Estep said the first case was confirmed on November 30 and likely came from a resident that transferred in from another part of the state.

Trigg County’s COVID-19 case total increased by 34 Tuesday, one of the largest single-day increases for the county since the pandemic began. The Pennyrile District Health Department provided the age on 31 of the 34 cases reported. All but four were over the age of 60 and 10 were 86 and older.
