Jamaica allrounder Andre Russell is back in the West Indies T20I squad for the first time since March 2020. The 33-year-old Russell was on Tuesday named in a provisional 18-man squad for the back-to-back five-match home series against South Africa, Australia, and Pakistan.
Also returning to the squad are Jamaican fast bowlers Sheldon Cottrell and Oshane Thomas along with batsman Shimron Hetmyer of Guyana and fast bowler Antiguan-American Hayden Walsh Jnr., with Kieron Pollard continuing to lead the side following on from the 2-1 home win against Sri Lanka in the format in March.
Explosive Jamaican opening batsman Chris Gayle is also in the squad. The 41-year-old Gayle was a part of the squad that triumphed in the series against Sri Lanka.

St John s [Antigua], May 18 (ANI): The Cricket West Indies (CWI) selection panel on Tuesday announced a provisional 18-man squad ahead of the three back-to-back five-match T20I series against South Africa, Australia, and Pakistan.
Sheldon Cottrell, Shimron Hetmyer, Andre Russell, Oshane Thomas, and Hayden Walsh Jr. return alongside the majority of the squad who featured in the 2-1 T20I series victory against Sri Lanka in March. These upcoming T20Is are crucial in terms of our preparation for the ICC T20 World Cup. We have assembled a very solid squad with experienced world-class match-winners and some exciting young talented players, ready to explode onto the global stage and do great things for West Indies cricket, said Phil Simmons, West Indies head coach in an official statement.

ST JOHN’S, Antigua – Explosive all-rounder Andre Russell is set to feature for West Indies for the first time in 14 months, after being named in an 18-man provisional Twenty20 squad on Tuesday for upcoming series against South Africa, Australia and Pakistan.
The 33-year-old superstar has been plagued by injury in recent years, leading to sporadic appearances for the Caribbean side and has featured in only five of their 38 T20 Internationals over the last 3-½ years.
He last turned out for West Indies on the two-match tour of Sri Lanka last year when he excelled with the bat to emerge Player-of-the-Series.
