Iain Softley’s smart movie about the early days of the Beatles finds an indirect way of getting up close and personal with the music legends; the film-makers couldn’t afford the expense of using the copyrighted Lennon/McCartney songs. A study of the band’s hardworking lives gigging in Hamburg in the early 60s, the film counterintuitively centres on Stuart Sutcliffe (Steven Dorff) – the band member who was destined to die of a brain haemorrhage just as they were on the verge of greatness – and his German girlfriend, Astrid Kirchherr, played by Sheryl Lee. (This tragic slant may have been an influence of Anton Corbijn’s Control.) Ian Hart gives a spiky, tasty, angular performance as John Lennon, who is shown as having an intense, almost romanticised friendship with the doomed Sutcliffe.

‘Christmas Comes Twice’ Hallmark Movie Premiere: Trailer, Synopsis, Cast 12/13/20 AT 7:00 AM Hallmark Channel’s “Countdown to Christmas” event continues with the premiere of “Christmas Comes Twice,” starring Tamera Mowry-Housley, Michael Xavier and Sheryl Lee Ralph. The film should be a treat for fans, as it will be Mowry-Housley s first on Hallmark Channel. She previously starred in Hallmark Movies & Mysteries’ “A Christmas Miracle,” but is likely best known for her roles as Tamera on “Sister, Sister” and her co-hosting gig on “The Real.” Xavier will also be making his Hallmark debut, having previously starred in the Lifetime holiday films “Radio Christmas” and “Christmas on Wheels,” as well as the Netflix film “Christmas Inheritance.” Ralph will be a more familiar face to fans, as she has previously appeared in Hallmark films such as “Fashionably Yours” and “Christmas at Holly Lodge.”
