SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. (NBC) – Two people are in custody in California related to a 25-year-old missing person case.
Authorities in San Luis Obispo County say they’ve arrested Paul Flores for the murder of Kristin Smart.
The 19-year-old Cal Poly freshman was last seen alive leaving a party with Paul Flores in May of 1996.
Flores was arrested at his home in San Pedro Tuesday morning. His father, Ruben Flores was also arrested on suspicion of accessory to murder.
In a news conference this afternoon, Sheriff Ian Parkinson said they got a break in the investigation in late 2016 evidence that identified Paul Flores as the prime suspect in Kristin’s disappearance.

SAN PEDRO, Calif. â A man named Paul Flores was taken into custody Tuesday morning in San Pedro, California, in connection with the disappearance and murder of Cal Poly student Kristin Smart.
During a press conference, Sheriff Ian Parkinson said Paul Flores was booked into the San Luis Obispo County Jail just after noon Tuesday on a single charge of murder.
Sheriff Parkinson said Flores would possibly be arraigned on Thursday.
Paul s father, Ruben Flores, was also taken into custody at around the same time at his home in Arroyo Grande, California.

ARROYO GRANDE, Calif. – After more than two decades of unanswered questions, an arrest has been made in the disappearance of Kristin Smart.
Longtime person of interest Paul Flores was arrested Tuesday and booked into the San Luis Obispo County Jail for Smart s death. Flores father, Ruben Flores, was also arrested as an accessory to the crime.
The arrests come nearly 25 years after Kristin Smart disappeared from the campus of Cal Poly.
