Despite still being mired in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, the show will go on.
Organizers have been hard at work in an effort to ensure the second annual Children’s Safety Village Kids Got Talent show still runs, only this time, spectators will be viewing from the comfort of their own home.

Calls to defuse incidents of erratic persons acting out due to addictions or mental health issues will be better answered in future through crisis response teams co-staffed by police and mental health workers, a virtual public forum on policing in Belleville heard Tuesday evening.
But arriving at optimum de-escalation of physical or emotional confrontations between uniformed peace officers and persons struggling with varying deep-seated addictions or psychological issues is easier said than done.

Our local United Way’s has once again raised a record-breaking total, $2,121,000.
The United Way-Hastings Prince Edward launched their COVID-19 Community Response Fund in March 2020, to continue supporting local organizations and programs, during the pandemic.
This fund raised $162,734 (the United Way’s annual fundraising campaign launched in September, raising $1,958,494.)
The announcement happened virtually yesterday. The 2020 campaign chair was Inspector Sheri Meeks of the Belleville Police Service.

The 2020 Cars for Community has surpassed expectations, raising more than $24,000 by 21 participating dealerships easing United Way Hastings & Prince Edward toward the $1.71 million mark just ahead of the Christmas break.
The annual Cars for Community event was postponed in the spring due to COVID 19 restrictions affecting the local automotive industry. Dealerships voted to reschedule the event to the fall and moved forward with a plan to run a three month Cars for Community campaign in support of United Way’s 2020 fundraising efforts.
