WFISD PIE honors partners, volunteers at 32nd banquet

WICHITA FALLS, Texas (TNN) - Volunteers, mentors and partners with the Wichita Falls ISD are not normally in the spotlight. But on Tuesday night, all they do behind the scenes was celebrated.
The 32nd annual Partners in Education reception thanked its partners who were all nominated by each school they serve in. 12 awards were handed out this year in a broad range of categories.
Shelia Verret won Mentor of the Year. She logs nearly 200 volunteer hours a month at Milam Elementary and is such a hard worker that often times the staff forgets that she is a volunteer.
Wichita Falls ISD recognized partners and mentors Tuesday who have made outstanding contributions to schools through the Partners in Education program, officials said.
WFISD handed out PIE awards at an reception to honor this school year s 32nd anniversary winners, officials said.

But Daniels supports victims in many ways besides in the courtroom.
There was the time the parents of a child victim in a sexual assault case feared the person accused of the crime would flee the state and slip away from justice.
Daniels turned to a prosecutor with the parents concerns.
“The prosecutor immediately went to put conditions of bond on the defendant, she said.
The parents testified at a hearing, and a judge granted conditions stipulating the defendant couldn t leave the state and can t leave the county without permission, Daniels said. That was a win, and so they were very grateful, she said. “Even though they have to wait for trial, that gave them a sigh of relief.
