But we are probably +/- 2 years from what will be noted as the bottom of the cycle. How will the Fed deal with enormous debt in a rising interest rate environment as the new rate cycle takes hold?   They will try to stop it by artificially holding rates down (more printing). But while interest rates are dropping, you can refinance old debt and still issue new debt and maintain the total cost of debt service. In a rising rate environment, debt rolling over now costs more to service, and with all the entitlements mandated by law AND the demographic problem of Boomers retiring AND living a lot longer than forecast, there is no place to cut the budget to deal with it, and not much appetite to cut entitlements or raise taxes (except a little bit on the super rich, but they get around it anyway).
