Mumbai, Jan 23 : Almost nine years after his death, Mumbai got the first life-size bronze statue honouring the memory of Shiv Sena founder-patriarch late Balasaheb Keshav Thackeray, on his 95th birth anniversary here on Saturday.
Amid showering of flowers, applause and beating of drums, his son and Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray unveiled the statue depicting Balasaheb Thackeray in his classical pose with both arms in the air, as he used to gesticulate during his famed annual Dussehra gatherings at the Shivaji Park, and even during political rallies.

A name-game has started with the onset of New Year. This time, there s a concerted and consolidated effort to rename Aurangabad in Maharashtra as Sambhaji Nagar. In fact, hardcore Shiv Sainiks have been using the name Sambhaji Nagar in lieu of Aurangabad for nearly two decades because their party founder Bal Thackeray had renamed it Sambhaji Nagar (after the name of Shivaji s son) a quarter of a century ago. Now the question is: Was Aurangzeb so bad and vicious as to be condemned as the Worst Mughal , to quote Indian (precisely, Hindu) historians Sacchidanand Sinha and Ishwari Prasad?
Sanjay Raut has made a shocking claim alleging that some
BJP leaders have been directly or indirectly threatening to topple the state government.
Raut made the remarks while addressing the media over reports of his wife getting the ED notice under PMLA, in connection with the loan fraud in PMC bank.
Reacting to reports of his wife getting ED notice, Raut said, For the last 1.5 months, ED has been communicating. They wanted some information, documents and we have provided it to them from time to time. However, what you are saying or as BJP saying, there isn t anything related to PMC scam or related to HDIL.
Raut said that the transaction had no linkage to the Punjab and Maharashtra Cooperative (PMC) Bank scam case. “In their letters to us the ED has not mentioned or referred to the PMC Bank scam,” Raut said.
Referring to the ED notices to NCP chief Sharad Pawar, NCP leader Eknath Khadse and Sena legislator Pratap Sarnaik in last one year, the Sena MP said that the notices are issued to key leaders of the Maha Vikas Aghadi who were involved in government formation in Maharashtra and prevented the BJP from coming to power in the state. He also said that the Sena was capable of hitting back at its opponents and would hold back no punches.
