Bendigo will be the richest night of provincial greyhound racing in Victoria’s history, with
$617,765 up for grabs including
$80,565 in breeder bonuses.
In what has been a big boost for the sport at grassroots level, around

Pink Diamond series,
Open exclusively to greyhounds bred in Victoria, the
Pink Diamond series saw eight maiden semi-finals and 40 heats held across a variety of grades and distances last Thursday and Friday at
Warragul,
Geelong.
And many of the biggest names in the sport will partake in Friday night’s bumper finals card at
Tiggerlong Tonk driving clear in the final bounds to score by 1.37 lengths in 29.23sec.
It was his 39
th win from 27 appearances at
Sandown.
“That was just a good contest between him and
Catch The Thief. He had to bring his best to win and he did,” said Grenfell.
“He was always going to dig deep and keep coming. He’s got a great will to win.”
The $100,000 winner’s purse elevated
Tiggerlong Tonk‘s prizemoney total to $676,015 and with five minor placings at G1 level that figure could have been significantly higher.
But there’s every chance he’ll be adding to his tally, with Grenfell saying a stud career will have to wait.

On the coldest race night of 2021,
Shima Shine defied the conditions to narrowly miss becoming the first dog to break the 29 second barrier twice, stopping the clock at 29.003 and powering into his seventh group 1 final.
“He went good the boy,” said handler
Korie Heinrich on behalf of trainer Andrea Dailly.
“I wasn’t expecting that but when the time came up I was pretty wrapped.”
While
Shima Shine has long been regarded one of the country’s fastest greyhounds, his inconsistent box manners was cause for concern for some, especially with just one win from his five previous starts entering the series. However he soon put paid to any concerns, capitalising on a clean run to the post to carve out impressive splits to record the eighth fastest gallop ever at Sandown Park.
