This has led to the new awakening of gender equality amongst the male-the dominated mindset in the state amid the farmers protest. Women of all ages are out are staging a protest demanding the repeal of the farm laws. In the past few weeks, they have braved all odds and stayed put despite Delhi’s bone-chilling winter amid lack of toilets, privacy or hygiene. Many are staying in the tractors in the cold. These women have given a new fillip to the protests as some can be seen singing revolutionary songs, while others are giving fiery speeches. They have been occupying front rows and are shouting slogans against the anti-government.

“At 8.48 am, I got a call from him (Amarjit). He said he had consumed sulphos. I reached him by 8.55 am. He handed us two typed letters before falling unconscious,” said Ram Kumar Munshi, who had been camping with Amarjit at Tikri border since December 16. Munshi said Amarjit was taken to the Bahadurgarh civil hospital and then to PGIMS Rohtak, where he was declared dead. Members of Amarjit’s family said he was 63 years old. “We have received information regarding the death of an advocate at Naya Gaon Chowk near Tikri. A team has been sent to look into the matter,” Ashok Kumar, DSP (Badli), said.

Farmers set up IT cell to counter fake news

Chandigarh/Bathinda, Dec 20 Farm unions have set up a dedicated information technology (IT) cell to counter fake news and “negative” propaganda against the farmers’ protest on the social media, BKU (Ekta Ugrahan) secretary Shingara Singh Mann said. Baljit Singh, who heads the IT cell, said they had created accounts under the name of ‘Kisan Ekta Morcha’ on various social media platforms, including Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Instagram and Snapchat. From having their own IT cell to training leaders to speak English, the unions are trying to counter the “propaganda war” on three agriculture laws. Kirti Kisan Union vice-president Rajinder Singh delivered his address in English on Sunday. Also, the unions have come out with six posters, explaining in detail how these laws would “finish” the farmers.
