The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development says the Apollo Gardens Homeowners Association in Mission refused to allow a resident to alter the sidewalk outside her townhome to accommodate her walker, then voted to remove the resident from the HOA board.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has charged a homeowners association in Mission with allegedly refusing to allow a resident to make modifications to the sidewalk outside her townhome that would have enabled easier use of her walker.

Brett Parker, a three-term Democratic state representative from Overland Park, says he plans to step down from his seat after the formal end of this year’s legislative session.
In an email to supporters Tuesday, and in a message repeated on Twitter and to the Shawnee Mission Post, Parker said he plans to “carve out more time for the most important people in my life and explore the next steps in my career.”

In an email to supporters Tuesday, and in a message repeated on Twitter and to the Shawnee Mission Post, Parker said he plans to “carve out more time for the most important people in my life and explore the next steps in my career.”
Johnson County s mask order has been lifted, but businesses and organizations that still require masks on their premises can call police if someone without one refuses to leave. Regardless, law enforcement agencies who responded to the Shawnee Mission Post s request for comment on the matter generally say they will be in favor of providing education and calming down mask-related conflicts first, before resorting to charging someone with trespassing.

Law enforcement agencies, now and before Johnson County s official mask mandate ended, say they have approached mask disputes with efforts to calm the situation and mediate between parties before making arrests. Even though Johnson County no longer requires masks to be worn in public, local police departments maintain that reaching a peaceful resolution is preferable to arrests and charges.
