Prominent children’s book illustrators offered insights into the potential of illustrations in enhancing children’s enjoyment and understanding of stories, and its evolution to the digital format, at a panel discussion titled ‘Digital Illustrations’ hosted at the Al Safa Art and Design Library in Dubai as part of the expanded cultural outreach agenda of the 12th edition of the Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival (SCRF).
The session hosted Matt Lamothe, a US-based illustrator and author, and self-taught Emirati digital artist, Aysha Al Hemrani, and was moderated by Emirati poet, Shaikha Al Mutairi.

Qadoumi, author of The Birds’ Journey to Mount Qaf, said that by painting a picture of who kids could become, books can provide young girls and boys with role models and inspiration.
Two eminent authors speaking at the 12th edition of the Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival (SCRF) have shared their dreams of a world where children could discover and develop their identities through books that celebrate shared cultures and differences.
At a cultural discussion titled ‘Happiness Factory’, Swaady Martin, a writer and one of Africa’s most recognised changemakers, and Huda Al Shawwa Qadoumi, an award-winning author from Kuwait, made a call for more stories that reflect the depth and breadth of human diversity.

Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, AED 2.5 million has been allocated for the purchase of new books from both Arab and foreign publishers participating in the 12th Sharjah Childrenâs Reading Festival (SCRF).
This annual tribute is in line with His Highnessâs leading efforts to enrich the emirateâs public libraries with high-quality and latest books and other knowledge resources for children and youth in the UAE.
As thriving cultural centres, Sharjah’s public libraries are a hub for academics, researchers, artists and students from around the world, and provide a wealth of knowledge resources.
