The movie, âJudas and the Black Messiahâ is a largely accurate portrayal of how the government conspired to kill one of the leaders of the Black Panther Party, a former leader of the Panthers in Winston-Salem says.
The movie âshows how the FBI went out of its way to murder Panthers like Fred Hampton and others,â said Larry Little, who at age 19 was a founding member of the Winston-Salem chapter of the Black Panther Party and a city native.
âThat sets the historical record straight,â Little said. âIt was an organized political assassination.â
The film depicts how the FBI used a confidential informant in its surveillance of a Panther leader and its collaboration with Chicago police in December 1969.

90 years after many Black Triangle neighborhoods were redlined by the federal government, the process is now happening in reverse in many of the same communities long-distressed or historically black communities are now being transformed by gentrification.
It s happening in Raleigh and in Durham too. We used to have family reunions right here in this yard, said Jackie Manns Hill, from the backyard of a small cottage in Durham s Walltown neighborhood. It s the home built by Hill s ancestor George Wall; the community s namesake who built the first home here.
Hill thinks back fondly to the happy times she spent here as a child. She moved back to Walltown to retire in her grandmother s home a few blocks away from George Wall s homestead. But, the times in this historically-black neighborhood are changing fast.
Soul Legend Gladys Knight Will Sing the National Anthem at the NBA All-Star Game in Atlanta

With the NBA All-Star game right around the corner, the National Basketball Association (NBA) has announced that legendary soul singer and seven-time GRAMMY Award-winner Gladys Knight will be performing the United States national anthem at its annual showcase.
Just last week, the NBA announced that NBA All-Star 2021 will be held on Sunday, March 7 at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, home of the Atlanta Hawks. With this announcement, the NBA and National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) also revealed that they will commit more than $2.5 million in funds and resources toward Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). They are also announcing that they are also supporting and bringing awareness around equity and access to COVID-19 care, relief, and vaccines.
Singer-songwriter and overall legend Gladys Knight has been confirmed to perform the U.S. National Anthem at the 2021 NBA All-Star Game, which will take place in Atlanta on Sunday, March 7th, according to NBA’s official website. The seven-time Grammy winner’s performance is reportedly part of a night-long tribute to HBCUs, of which Knight is a graduate (Shaw University is her alma-mater.)
