Sharon Kennedy: A daughter’s tribute

Two weeks ago Laurie and Bob Patterson of Brimley hosted a memorial for Laurie’s mother, Betty Harrison, who passed away last December. I was looking forward to celebrating Betty’s life and hearing stories about her many accomplishments, but I couldn’t have imagined how beautiful her tribute would be.
As many readers will remember, Betty was Sault Ste. Marie’s premier Avon lady. For almost 58 years, she faithfully served her customers and handed out countless numbers of brochures, lipstick, cologne and make-up samples.
Laurie and her family had arranged a display of Betty’s many Avon awards, pins and accolades and had created a collage of photographs of her with friends and relatives. As I looked at what she had earned from Avon, I thought of the many steps she had walked as she went door-to-door in the 1960s. She must have knocked on hundreds of front doors. Fortunate to have, depend upon school resource officers
Both Madison Superintendent Rob Peterson and Lexington Superintendent Jeremy Secrist say their districts benefit from having a school resource officer. One of our highest priorities in the Madison Local School District is the safety of our students and staff. We feel very strongly about the relationship that we have developed with the Richland County Sheriff s Office and the support that they provide for our district, Peterson wrote in an email. In recent years, we have contracted with the sheriff s office to have a school resource officer on staff in our district in order to help keep our students and staff safe.
