Kim's Convenience actor Simu Liu criticized the show's 'overwhelmingly white' producers for discounting input from Asian cast members, revealed that the actors were paid at an 'absolute horsepoop rate' and that showrunners were 'epically reclusive.'
"Kim s Convenience" has released its latest season to Netflix in the U.S., but the show will not be back for Season 6 after the Korean comedy was canceled.
It was announced in March that the series was ending after the departure of co-creators Ins Choi and Kevin White. Shortly after, a spin-off was greenlit which will follow Nicole Power s character, Shannon Ross.
In a lengthy Facebook post ahead of the show s fifth and final season premiering on Netflix, Liu explained why he wouldn t want to be part of the spin-off. CBC The producers of the show are indeed spinning off a new show from the Shannon character, he wrote on June 2. It s been difficult for me. I love and am proud of Nicole, and I want the show to succeed for her. but I remain resentful of all of the circumstances that led to the one non-Asian character getting her own show.
