Michael Christopher Mejia, 30, is awaiting trial on charges stemming from Feb. 20, 2017.
One of Mejia’s victims was officer Keith Boyer, 53, who was responding to a report of a traffic collision in which Mejia had been involved.

LOS ANGELES - Over the objection of the two prosecutors assigned to the case, the Los Angeles County District Attorney s Office dropped its bid Thursday to seek the death penalty for an admitted gang member accused of killing a family member in East Los Angeles and then opening fire on two Whittier police officers, killing one and wounding the other.

BELLFLOWER (CNS) - A felon accused of gunning down his estranged wife inside a Kohl s store in Whittier is scheduled to be arraigned today on murder and child abuse charges.
Enrique Acosta, 41, of Whittier, allegedly shot and killed his 46-year-old estranged wife, Yvonne Annette Acosta, after they argued inside the Kohl s store in the presence of their 8-year-old son, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney s Office.
Prosecutors allege that Acosta violated a protective stay-away court order related to an earlier 2019 domestic violence conviction, but the District Attorney s Office did not immediately confirm whether that order named Yvonne Acosta.
