In 2004, Akram Afif joined Al Markhiya s youth system where he spent two years before joining the youth academy of Al Sadd Sports Club. Then from Al Sadd, Afif moved to Qatar s iconic state-of-the-art Aspire Academy in 2009 where he spent five years. While at Aspire, Afif got an opportunity via a student exchange program, to travel to Spain where he trained and played for Sevilla and Villarreal s youth teams. Akram Afif belongs to a family of footballers. His father Hassan Asif, who is of Somalian descent, represented the Somalian national football team. He also played for Qatari club, Al Ittihad, now known as Al-Gharafa Sports Club. Akram s elder sibling Ali Afif plays for Al Duhail Sports Club and is also a member of the Qatar national team.
