A chase in Wausau ended with a crash that sent the driver to the hospital.
The Wausau Police Department says one of their officer’s tried to stop a vehicle for speeding early Sunday morning.
The driver was in the area of Grand Avenue and Sturgeon Eddy road. He tried to flee.
A short pursuit ended when the vehicle crashed and caught fire near Memorial Park.
Wausau officers were able to put the fire out.
The 22 year old man driving had significant injuries.
He had to be extracted from the vehicle by the Wausau Fire Department, and was taken to Aspirus Wausau Hospital for treatment.

WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) A 22-year-old man was injured during a police chase early Sunday morning.
Wausau Police attempted to stop the man for speeding near Sturgeon Eddy Road and Grand Avenue at around 1:20 AM. Instead of pulling over, the driver sped off and a short pursuit ensued.
The driver ultimately crashed near Memorial Park, about a half-mile from where officers had tried to initiate the stop. His vehicle caught fire, which police officers were able to put out with equipment in their patrol cars. The driver sustained “significant” injuries in the crash and required extraction by firefighters.
