Since vaccinations opened up for the 18-44 age group from May 1, several citizens are unable to find slots on CoWIN. Many complained that slots fill up within minutes of opening. Amidst chaos, a sting operation by city-based health activists revealed grave malpractice in slot bookings. They exposed that due to some prior ‘setting’, slots for different centres get filled 20-30 minutes before opening to public 8 pm of the previous day.
Jan Arogya Abhiyaan (JAA) members found slots meant for May 10 completely filled around 7.40 pm on May 9. They have now raised this issue with the state government, demanding action against this “corrupt practice” keeping needy citizens out of the drive.

The COVID vaccines demanded by the
state government from the
Serum Institute of India (SII) and the
Bharat Biotech will be delivered soon, giving an impetus to the existing vaccination drive in the city for the age group of 18 to 44 years. Additional doses from the Centre shall also be arriving giving a further boost to the programme for those in the over-45 years category in the state.
